BEACHES

With 147km of coastline and situated in the Sunny South East of Ireland any visit to Co. Waterford would not be complete without a visit to at least one of the many beaches scattered along this beautiful coastline. 

Stradbally Cove , across the road from the Gate Lodge, Woodhouse, this sandy Cove is an ideal spot for building sandcastles, paddling and exploring caves and rock pools.

Ballyvooney, a lovely secluded shingle cove on the coast road from Stradbally to Bonmahon.  Ideal for shore fishing, bird watching and photographing the stunning coastline. 

Clonea, a blue flag sandy beach ideal for family days out. Swimming, kayaking, surfing, walking, exploring, chips and icecream!

Ardmore – on the other side of Dungarvan.  Beautiful sandy beach, perfect for swimming, kayaking, making sandcastles.  Check out the Ardmore Cliff Walk for stunning coastal views and a spot of Dolphin & Whale watching!

Dunmore East – this beautiful fishing village is well worth a visit. Pack a picnic and enjoy a family day of fun, swimming and searching for small sea life in the rock pools. 

ADVENTURE & WATER ACTIVITIES

The sunny South East is a popular destination for water lovers. Sea swimmers and paddlers alike will enjoy the nearby beautiful sandy Clonea beach. For the more adventurous Waveworld at Clonea offers kayaking, snorkeling, paddle boarding, a water trampoline and a banana boat

CYCLING

The Waterford Greenway is 46km of unused railway running from Waterford to Dungarvan and is now an off road cycling trail which takes in eleven bridges, three viaducts a spooky tunnel with a vast collection of fairy doors and some of the most spectacular mountain and coastal views in the county. The closest access point at Durrow is about a 5 minute drive from Woodhouse Estate and from there it is a not too strenuous but very scenic cycle into Dungarvan.

COPPER COAST

A stretch of 25km of stunning coastline, the Copper Coast runs from Kilfarassy Beach in the East to Stradbally in the West.
The Copper Coast drive takes you on a journey of hidden coves, sandy beaches and coastal villages. Along the way check out The Copper Coast Geopark, Tankardstown Copper Mines, Dunhill Castle and Anne Valley nature trail

HISTORY & HERITAGE

What better place to start exploring than in our own Woodhouse Estate Museum. We have a curator on hand to walk you through the history of the estate from its origins in the early 1600’s to present day. The history of Dungarvan can be traced back to the 3rd century a.d. and both Dungarvan Castle and Waterford County Museum are well worth a visit. Waterford City is Ireland’s oldest city and is steeped in history as are many of the smaller towns and villages of the county.

Pick up some fresh produce from the market and cook it yourself in your fully equipped self catering cottage in Woodhouse Estate  –  markets are held every Thursday in Dungarvan, Friday mornings in Abbeyside and Saturday morning in Stradbally.  The markets have lots of local artisan producers, fresh fish, home baking and stall selling fresh coffee and hot food
